For the last 10 years, Taylor Rees has used documentary filmmaking as a way to explore the ways in which the stories we create around social justice issues and ecological degradation are in need of an ever evolving lens, an ever shifting kaleidoscope of voices and contributors, an ever widening lens of connectivity, and an ever closer listen to whats happening beneath the surface. Through collaborative story creation, we not only generate understanding about who we are as human beings within an incomprehensibly complex living planet, but we also create new worlds through which we step forth into. Our sense of awe and wonder about the mysteries of life on Earth become the catalyst for engaging with it all more deeply. Filmmaking for Taylor is guided not by institutionally accepted formulas or strategies, but by the power of committing to a shared creative journey with all involved at every step of the process. Her films bring forth the involvement of multi-disciplinary artists, experimental musicians, reclusive writers, bold visionaries, and a few unexpected strangers along the way.Over the course of her career, having worked intimately with communities and characters of across out little globe, her ideas on how to navigate impact campaigns and ultimately affect positive change through storytelling continues to evolve. She definitely hasn’t figured out the answer, but perhaps hopes to keep it that way.
